POW Watch: Week ending February 6, 2022
Connor Bedard has been a beast since returning back from the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship.
The projected No. 1 pick of the 2023 NHL draft picks up his first Western Hockey League Player of the Week honors for this season. The 16-year-old Regina Pats standout put up seven points (four goals, three assists) during the week ending February 6, and scored one of the nicest goals of his career on Sunday against the Calgary Hitmen.
Bedard has amassed a staggering 23 points (11 goals, 12 assists) in his past 10 games since returning from the World Juniors, and leads his team in scoring with 47 points in 34 games this season so far.
Rutger McGroarty of the USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program also netted himself a nod.
He was also named the Player of the Week in the United States Hockey League. The 2022 NHL draft eligible prospect posted four points (two goals, two assists) in his only game versus the Muskegon Lumberjacks in an exciting 9-8 overtime victory.
The University of Michigan commit has 38 points (18 goals, 20 assists) in 31 games this season.
McGroarty is No. 12 in FCHockey’s midseason ranking for the 2022 NHL draft, and is slotted 18th among North American skaters on NHL Central Scouting’s midterm list.
