POW Watch: Week ending Nov. 29, 2021

Brennan Othmann is on a tear. 

The New York Rangers prospect is the Ontario Hockey League Player of the Week after notching seven points (one goal, six assists) in three games last week. 

He was named first star in two of those three games, including two three-point performances.

Othmann, the No. 16 pick in the 2021 NHL Draft, leads the Flint Firebirds with 27 points (14 goals, 13 assists) in 17 games this season. His 92 shots on goal are the third-most among OHL skaters, and his 1.59 points-per-game registers as the fifth-highest in the league. 

He was named to the OHL’s First All-Rookie Team in 2019-20 with 33 points (17 goals, 16 assists) in 55 games.

Othmann was originally selected in the first round (No. 2) in the 2019 OHL Priority Selection by Flint.

OHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK — Brennan Othmann (Flint Firebirds)

Brennan Othmann is the Ontario Hockey League Player of the Week after netting seven points (one goal, six assists) across three games. Othmann, selected in the first round (No. 16) of the 2021 NHL Draft by the New York Rangers, leads the Flint Firebirds with 27 points (14 goals, 13 assists) in 17 games. His 1.59 point-per-game clip is the fifth-highest pace in the OHL.

OHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK — Tye Austin (Peterborough Petes)

Tye Austin is the Ontario Hockey League Goaltender of the Week with a 2.50 goals-against average and .923 save percentage in two wins. Austin is 3-2-0-0 with a 3.83 goals-against average and .888 save percentage in six games this season.

QMJHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK — Samuel Johnson (Rouyn-Noranda Huskies)

Samuel Johnson is the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Player of the Week with eight points (one goal, seven assists) in three games, including a five-assist game in a 6-4 victory over the Cape Breton Eagles on Sunday. He is tied for the team lead with 22 points (six goals, 16 assists) in 17 games. 

WHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK — Sean Tschigerl (Calgary Hitmen)

Sean Tschigerl is the Western Hockey League Player of the Week with eight points (four goals, four assists) in two games. Tschigerl, selected in the fifth round (No. 130) in the 2021 NHL Draft by the Anaheim Ducks, leads the WHL with four shorthanded goals and tops all Calgary Hitmen skaters with 12 goals. 

WHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK — Mason Beaupit (Spokane Chiefs)

Mason Beaupit is the Western Hockey League Goaltender of the Week after stopping 59 of 61 shots to post a 1-0-0-1 record, 0.96 goals-against average and .967 save percentage. Beaupit, eligible for the 2022 NHL Draft, is 7-10-5-1 with a 3.24 goals-against average and .905 save percentage in 25 career WHL games.

USHL FORWARD OF THE WEEK — Quinn Hutson (Muskegon Lumberjacks)

Quinn Hutson is the United States Hockey League Forward of the Week after registering seven points (four goals, three assists) in two games. Hutson has 21 points (11 goals, 10 assists) in 18 games after netting 42 points (16 goals, 26 assists) in 45 games last season.

USHL DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK — Trey Taylor (Youngstown Phantoms)

Trey Taylor is the United States Hockey League Defenseman of the Week after recording a three-point outing, all assists, in his lone game of the week. Taylor has 13 points (two goals, 11 assists) in 18 games this season.

USHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK — Noah Grannan (Sioux Falls Stampede)

Noah Grannan is the United States Hockey League Goaltender of the Week with a 25-save shutout on Saturday. He is 2-2-0-0 with a 3.09 goals-against average and .889 save percentage in five games this season.

CCHA FORWARD OF THE WEEK — Tristan Ashbrook (Michigan Tech)

Tristan Ashbrook is the CCHA Forward of the Week after scoring four goals in a weekend sweep of Ferris State. Ashbrook, who is on a four-game point streak (six goals, two assists), ranks second on Michigan Tech with seven goals.

CCHA DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK — Elias Rosen (Bemidji State)

Elias Rosen is the CCHA Defenseman of the Week with three points (one goal, two assists) in two games. He has 10 points (one goal, nine assists) in 14 games. 

CCHA GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK — Ethan Langenegger (Lake Superior State)

Ethan Langenegger is the CCHA Goaltender of the Week with a 1.50 goals-against average and a .936 save percentage in a weekend split against the No. 1 Minnesota State Mavericks. Langenegger has a 3.08 goals-against average and .899 save percentage in 11 games this season.

CCHA ROOKIE OF THE WEEK — Tanner Edwards (Minnesota State)

Tanner Edwards is the CCHA Rookie of the Week after scoring his first collegiate goal. He finished with a plus-1 rating and one shot on goal.

ECAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK — Liam Robertson (Union)

Liam Robertson is the ECAC Player of the Week after scoring twice in Union’s 3-2 win at Merrimack on Saturday. Robertson is third in team scoring with eight points (five goals, three assists) in 13 games played.

ECAC GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK — Ethan Haider (Clarkson)

Ethan Haider is the ECAC Goaltender of the Week after stopping 64 of 65 shots in a pair of wins. Haider, selected in the fifth round (No. 148) of the 2019 NHL Draft by the Nashville Predators, leads ECAC Hockey in saves (362) and save percentage (.928) this season.

ECAC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK — Ayrton Martino (Clarkson)

Ayrton Martino is the ECAC Rookie of the Week with two points (one goal, one assist) with a plus-2 rating and four shots in two games. Martino, selected in the third round (No. 73) in the 2021 NHL Draft by the Dallas Stars, has 10 points (two goals, eight assists) in 15 games this season.

HOCKEY EAST FORWARD OF THE WEEK — Brett Berard (Providence)

Brett Berard is the Hockey East Forward of the Month with six points (two goals, four assists) in two games. Berard, who had two three-point outings, leads Hockey East in scoring with 21 points (10 goals, 11 assists). He was selected in the fifth round (No. 134) of the 2020 NHL Draft by the New York Rangers.

HOCKEY EAST DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK — Andrew Lucas (Vermont)

Andrew Lucas is the Hockey East Defenseman of the Month with three assists and 11 blocked shots in two games for Vermont. He has eight points (one goal, seven assists) in 12 games this season.

HOCKEY EAST GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK — Mike Robinson (New Hampshire)

Mike Robinson is the Hockey East Goaltender of the Week after allowing two goals in two wins, stopping 47 saves for a .959 save percentage. It’s the second consecutive week Robinson has received the nod.

HOCKEY EAST ROOKIE OF THE WEEK — Devon Levi (Northeastern)

Devon Levi is the Hockey East Rookie of the Week, for a second straight week, after allowing one goal in each win to post a 2-0-0 record. Levi, selected in the seventh round (No. 212) of the 2020 NHL Draft by the Buffalo Sabres, now owns a .950 save percentage, which is second in the entire NCAA. His 1.43 goals-against average is sixth in the nation.

NCHC FORWARD OF THE WEEK — Drew Worrad (Western Michigan)

Drew Worrad is the NCHC Forward of the Week after finishing his weekend series with six points (one goal, five assists) and six shots on goal with a plus-3 rating. He leads the country with 25 points (five goals, 20 assists) and a 1.79 points-per-game. 

NCHC DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK — Aidan Fulp (Western Michigan)

Aidan Fulp is the NCHC Defenseman of the Week with three points (one goal, two assists) and a plus-3 rating with three shots on goal and one blocked shot. He now has four points (two goals, two assists) in nine games this season.

NCHC GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK — Ryan Fanti (Minnesota Duluth)

Ryan Fanti is the NCHC Goaltender of the Week with a 2-0-0 record with a 0.50 goals-against average and .946 save percentage in stopping 29 of 30 shots in two games. Fanti is third nationally with both a .946 save percentage and a 1.25 GAA, while his four shutouts tie for third in the NCAA. He has a record of 9-2-1 this season.

NCHC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK — Red Savage (Miami)

Red Savage is the NCHC Rookie of the Week with one goal on one shot and two blocked shots in two games. Savage, selected in the fourth round (No. 114) of the 2021 NHL Draft by the Detroit Red Wings, has six points (one goal, five assists) in 14 games this season.
