Jones named CHL Goaltender of the Week

A lanky, long goaltender with great athleticism, he has sharp, concise side-to-side movements. That athleticism and size makes him a tantalizing goalie prospect. He generally uses his size well by being aggressive on the shooter, getting a good distance out of his crease on rushes and sealing off nearly any holes that a shooter could target. He also challenges shooters aggressively without sacrificing his ability to make saves on second-chance opportunities. However, his size also makes him think he can drop down early and still cover a good majority of the net. He displays decent reflexivity when facing shots from a distance, getting his glove up at his shoulder and taking away the daylight. But when he goes down to the ice, shooters are often able to pick the upper corners of the net over his shoulders. He often has a tough time tracking the puck, leaving him fairly far out of position and giving his opponents wide-open looks. His rebound control can be shaky at times, but his competitiveness allows him to battle on cross-crease chances and he uses his long legs effectively to divert shots to the sides of the zone. He has good form in his butterfly and doesn’t get beat often with low shots. Although he can get beat to the glove on open looks, his size allows him to square up when given enough time.
