Zetterberg is a quick, darting forward who uses his speed in all three zones. A confident and patient puck carrier, Zetterberg is able to create offense with his agility and vision, being aggressive attacking the middle of the ice despite his diminutive frame. Despite usually being outweighed along the boards, Zetterberg’s quick feet and low center of gravity allow him to escape checks and maintain control of the puck in high-traffic areas. His balance allows him to display his patience and find tough passing lanes through traffic, even while being pressured. He has a soft first touch and is able to quickly settle bouncing pucks and make quick plays thanks to his puckhandling ability. He also has a lightning-quick release on his shot and excels at finding pockets of space in the home plate area to get a quick chance towards the net. While he doesn’t have the power to score consistently from outside the hashmarks, he has solid accuracy and makes defenders respect his shot, opening up more opportunities for him to find open teammates. Zetterberg works hard away from the puck and makes good defensive reads to intercept passes through the middle and poke pucks away in the neutral zone. He is fearless going into physical battles despite his size, supporting his defenders low in the zone and holding his own in puck battles. Zetterberg might be forced to the wing in the NHL due to his strength, but he has all the other offensive tools to project as a dynamic top-six forward with versatile power play skills. He looks like a strong bet to go in 2024’s first round at this point.
