Beniers to represent Team USA at World Championship

Matthew Beniers, a top prospect for the 2021 NHL Draft, was among the 26 players that will represent Team USA at 2021 IIHF men’s World Championship.

The tournament will be held in Riga, Latvia from May 21 – June 6.

Beniers, No. 4 in Spring ranking for the 2021 draft, was included among 14 forwards. He had 24 points (10 goals, 14 assists) in 24 games with the University of Michigan in 2020-21, and received NCAA (B1G) All-Freshman Team honors and was an NCAA (B1G) All-Star Team honorable mention.

He also had three points (one goal, two assists) in seven games in helping Team USA to a gold medal at the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship.

Beniers joins University of Michigan teammate Owen Power at the tournament. Power was named to Canada’s entry at the World Championship on Wednesday.
