Reid is a very high IQ and super poised defenseman. The game seems like it’s at a slower speed for him than others despite being just 16 years old. He doesn’t rush anything and rarely makes a bad pass. He sometimes gets caught making a bad play, but only because he doesn’t have the authoritative mindset yet that comes with being an older player. Reid has the skating and stickhandling to control the play whenever he is out there, but early in his career he’s lacked the desire to put his mark on the game. I am confident that will change in time as the team becomes his more and his fear of making mistakes fades. He won puck battles tonight along the boards in a really tough manner against some older and stockier Owen Sound players, and at times won them in a nifty manner, having one hand on the stick and poke checking it while be throwing into the boards, for an example. He showed a desire to win every situation no matter what. Defensively, he uses his high IQ and strong skating with a good stick to make himself an impactful defender, despite his underdeveloped build. Reid will need to develop is offensive profile more as the season develops in order to solidify himself as a first round pick going into the 2025 draft season, but I am confident he will.
