Robins’ skating is high end for a few reasons, especially when he winds up to drive the puck into the zone on an entry, he can gain loads of speed and his hands are good enough to maintain possession while moving at that pace. At the same time, he can shift dynamics to move into open space and put defenders on their heels. His ability to change the pace of play opens skating lanes, allows for passing lanes and simply means he can often hold onto the puck longer than most players. He plays a strong skating 200 -foot game with attention to detail and a little bit of scoring prowess to add to the mix. He adapts to defenders very well. He isn’t an elite mind but he’s sharp with the puck and able to fend off opponents so he that can find the right timing and lane for a pass or shot. He’s got a decent shot and can be a danger in tight and off the rush, but the strength is his release and accuracy with the velocity needing a little work. He is crafty with his hands while moving through tight areas of the ice. Defensively, he wins board battles because he uses every part of himself including his feet, his hands, his stick and his low-center frame. He works well away from the puck and is a disruptive figure by usage of stick and body. Overall, he is a smart player in all three zones.
