Seeley is an easy guy to like but he’s a bit of a mystery as to his long-term potential as a prospect. The flashiest part about his skating is his strong form, originating from a strong stance that allows him to transition easily in any direction and getting a quick yet powerful first step, but his skating stride is a bit awkward and a little short on power. His stride length and ability to cover space masks some of his indecision defensively and he should be more willing and confident to bring the puck up the ice. His defensive game is clean and tidy, and he displays excellent positioning without the puck and uses deceptive body language and quick stick work to evade forecheckers when he does have it. He isn’t the biggest defender but his mobility, compete, and hockey IQ makes him a very effective player both with and without the puck. Offensively, while his puck patience and passing are decent, he seems to lack creativity in the offensive zone. He is good at recognizing windows of opportunity and gets pucks off his stick quickly, but there isn’t a lot of deception or power. The best part about his game is his hockey sense, which is exceptional. His mind processes the game at an elite speed, allowing him to read and react to the play as it unfolds. As reliable as he is in all three zones, he doesn’t really make a huge impact in any of them.
