FC releases Fall Ranking for 2019 NHL Draft

A solid two-way defenseman, Okhotyuk can quickly gather the puck and make simple breakout passes. His skating stride is wide and slow and he also transitions slowly when opposing teams start the rush. He plays a physical game at times and does a good job to separate the puck carrier from the puck while situating himself between the puck carrier and the net. At times he can be a liability in his own end. He tends to attack opposing players at inopportune times, sometimes showing poor effort and just poking his stick at the puck carrier, which often forces him to have to turn and chase the play. That said, he has shown some push back and is good at finishing his checks. Plays with some snarl along the boards and is solid at tying guys up. The young Russian blue liner can break the puck out with mostly successful short passes, but sometimes struggles when he’s under siege. He has good hockey sense and has shown the ability to complete long passes as well as quick, cross-ice passes to teammates. Has decent instincts for keeping the puck in the offensive zone to extend plays. His quick wrist shot is above average and he has a lightning-fast release. Overall, he’s pretty raw in both ends and needs more refinement at both ends of the ice, but has already shown a little bit of growth.
