Prokop unfortunately plays like a prospect without an identity but that means the team drafts him will have a lot of flexibility with how they sculpt and develop him. He’s sufficiently elusive in his zone, and he does a good job of picking a spot or two per game to join the rush up the ice. He’s a hard player to contain when he gets that head of steam going. He’s an athletic, toolsy defender who has been steadily taking more and more ownership of the ice in all three zones as his confidence grows. He can still be prone to fighting the puck at times and getting a little lost in his defensive zone coverage, though there has been notable improvement in those areas lately. At times he struggles to read the flow of the game and gets hesitant is his puck movement. Despite that, there’s a lot of defensive upside to his game, as he has long backward skating strides, a long reach on his stick and some jam to his game. Offense doesn’t come as naturally to him, but he’s starting to push the pace by carrying the puck more and jumping into the rush more frequently. A very raw player who needs a lot of time to grow, but there is a lot of potential in his game waiting to be unlocked. Because of his natural tools, there is some real long-term “boom” potential with him if everything lands just right as he fills out his frame.
