Sjodin is a center with some solid technical skills. He is small-sized and does not have much strength, but manages those weaknesses fairly well by using his view of the ice and keeping his head up to know where opponents and teammates are. Often sets up accurate and hard passes to linemates and is playable in breakouts. He is comfortable entering zones with the puck on his stick, and he displays calmness when he has it. He is effective transporting the puck down deep in the offensive zone. Looks calm and patient and likes to be in control of the puck with his great hands. Is a threat who needs to be covered during a man-advantage. He has quick feet and good first strides, but he doesn’t get much power out of his lower body, which makes his top speed average. He is pretty reliable in his defensive end. He read the play well and is really good at both covering his man and keeping proper zone positioning. He has a good stick that he can use to break up plays and opposing passes. Has some problems when under a lot of pressure, looking lost. He must learn to better use shoulder check when under pressure in his defensive zone. He could also improve his aggression and urgency when defending. Struggles in the physical play when he is facing bigger and stronger opponents. He has issues when battling for the puck along the boards, and avoids battles in front of the net. Needs to get better at buying chances off of his stick. Also has a tendency to make it a little too difficult for himself, instead of going for an easy shot he’ll elect to try a pass or make an extra move, even if it isn’t the right play. There are things to like, though his physical tools are a problem.
