Finley is one of the youngest prospects in this draft class — as a September 2002 birthdate — but also one of the biggest and he skates reasonably well for his size, with good hands and decent playmaking instincts. He doesn’t really garner an advantage due to his long skating stride, but he is surprisingly coordinated and fluid, showing some cohesion with his thought process and it doesn’t seem to be a huge burden amongst his peers, although it’s likely to never be a strength. He isn’t a flashy player, but he does have a dangerous touch on his passes and knows how to read play quickly and effectively. He uses his quickness and reach to his advantage, positioning himself to hold onto pucks under pressure until he finds his outlet. He is an excellent net-front presence and is borderline unmovable when he set himself, but he lacks the skill level and puck control to maximize the effectiveness of his size. He has clunky hands and even if he gains a positional edge to power to the net-front, they often let him down. Strong on his stick, he is well positioned in his own zone and uses his angling ability to gain leverage in puck battles. His stick is active in passing zones and there is a supportive element to his game. At times, he can get caught in his own end when he finds himself flat-footed. He’s a rounded player who could provide a presence if he gains an edge and hones his game to playing solid defensive hockey.
