Who To Watch at the 2019 WJAC

What Savoie lacks in dynamic speed, he makes up for with his creative skating. While he doesn’t have the cleanest stride, he sees the ice so well that a quick spin or a few extra strides will help him get the edge in a foot race. His hockey sense is very good, allowing him to find the quiet parts of the ice to receive passes, as well as understand where loose pucks are going to pop out. Once he gets the puck on his stick in a dangerous area, he’s lethal, especially as a shooter but also as a playmaker. Has a smooth, confident touch on the puck, and can both feather passes or whip them accurately to his teammates. He could be a little stronger on the puck, but his hands are so slick and quick he can get by at this level. However, the rest of his game is lacking. He floats around constantly and gets caught not moving his feet. His defensive game is practically nonexistent. Gets pushed around easily in tight traffic and seems completely disinterested in going to dirty areas to battle for pucks. When he is disengaged, he seems all too happy to let his teammates do all the dirty work and heavy lifting while he floats around waiting for someone to get him the puck. Rarely drives the play himself. As talented as he is offensively, he needs to step up his game in all three areas of the ice.
