Gucciardi is a skilled two-way defenseman who shows flair in his offensive game. His creativity with the puck enables him to be an excellent offensive force. Gucciardi flashes his excellent puck control and vision in his drives from the blue line to the slot for a scoring chance. He can find skating lanes and passing seams with relative ease all over the ice. He shows an ability to dictate the game from wherever he is on the ice. His stick placement with the puck allows him to make quick easy movements and change his routes into open ice when he comes under pressure. It’s this ability to escape pressure that makes Gucciardi so impressive on the puck. He does this in a very poised and calm manner, rarely rushing his decisions and executing plays with great precision. His skating is good, and he owns some solid edges that allow him to be highly mobile in all four directions, making him tough to pin down. His top-end speed isn’t elite but is solid enough to allow him to keep up with the pace and make his way up and down the ice with the pace of play. It’s his use of deception through his body language and puck handling that allows him to generate offence and find space through the neutral and offensive zones. His defensive game has some room for improvement but has its positives as well. Gucciardi can keep a good gap, competes hard around the puck and does a solid job keeping opponents to the perimeter with his stick and body positioning. When he’s in the right spots he’s incredibly tough to beat one on one for opponents. He can get out of position at times though and part of that is because he jumps up into the offense regularly. When he comes back to the defensive zone he can sometimes be found floating around the middle. His defensive reads can at times be suspect too. As players come into his defensive zone, if they don’t approach from the outside perimeter, Gucciardi and his partner can get their wires crossed and leave entire lanes wide open. While Gucciardi doesn’t have to answer for his defensive partner, his role in these instances can look like puck watching and not activating into the play at all.
