POW Watch: Week Ending Oct. 18, 2021
What a weekend it was for Carter Savoie.
Savoie, an Edmonton Oilers prospect, had a record-setting weekend to power Denver to a sweep of Air Force, netting seven points in the process.
The 19-year-old opened the scoring in a 4-1 win on Friday before exploding for an NCAA career-high six points (three goals, three assists) in an 8-0 victory on Saturday. His six points set an NCHC record for points in a game. The hat-trick is Savoie’s first in the NCAA, and each of his three helpers were primary assists, too.
Savoie finished the series with the Falcons with four goals, three assists, 13 shots on goal and a plus-4 rating.
He leads the NCHC with 11 points (five goals, six assists) and is tied for the conference lead in goals (5) and assists (6), and his 2.75 points-per-game lead the entire NCAA.

WHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Tristen Robins (Saskatoon Blades)
Saskatoon Blades forward Tristen Robins has been named Western Hockey League Player of the Week. Robins, selected in the second round (No. 56) by the San Jose Sharks in the 2020 NHL Draft, had eight points (two goals, six assists) in three games. Robins, 19, leads the WHL in scoring with 13 points (three goals, 10 assists). He has 135 points (55 goals, 80 assists) in 155 career WHL games.
WHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK – Koen MacInnes (Everett Silvertips)
Everett Silvertips netminder Koen MacInnes has been named Western Hockey League Goaltender of the Week. MacInnes, 19, registered a shutout in Everett’s 3-0 win against the Seattle Thunderbirds on Saturday. MacInnes, 19, has a 2-0-0 record with a 1.47 GAA and .938 SV% in two appearances. He had a 4-2-1 record in seven games with the Saskatoon Blades in 2020-21.
OHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Calum Ritchie (Oshawa Generals)
Oshawa Generals rookie forward Calum Ritchie has been named Ontario Hockey League Player of the Week. Ritchie, the No. 2 pick in the 2021 OHL Priority Selection, had seven points (four goals, three assists) and a plus-4 rating in three games. Ritchie, eligible for the 2023 NHL Draft, has nine points (six goals, three assists) in five games for Oshawa. The 16-year-old had 59 points (20 goals, 39 assists) in 30 games with the Oakville Rangers U15 AAA in 2019-20.
OHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK – Brett Brochu (London Knights)
London Knights netminder Brett Brochu has been named Ontario Hockey League Goaltender of the Week. Brochu, an undrafted free agent, posted three wins with a 2.55 GAA and .923 SV% in three appearances. Brochu, who has helped the Knights to an OHL-best 5-0 record, leads all goaltenders with five wins. He has a 2.49 GAA and .922 SV% on the season and has won 14 consecutive regular-season games dating back to Feb. 14, 2020.
QMJHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Felix Lafrance (Chicoutimi Sagueneens)
Chicoutimi Sagueneens winger Felix Lafrance has been named Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Player of the Week. Lafrance, 20, had eight points (six goals, two assists) in three games, including four points in a 4-0 win against the Baie-Comeau Drakkar. Lafrance, an undrafted free agent, is second in Sagueneens scoring and 16th in QMJHL scoring despite playing only three games this season.
USHL FORWARD OF THE WEEK – Cole Burtch (Cedar Rapids RoughRiders)
Cedar Rapids RoughRiders winger Cole Burtch has been named United States Hockey League Forward of the Week. Burtch, an undrafted free agent forward, had three points (two goals, one assist) in his first game with Cedar Rapids after being acquired via trade. Burtch, a Western Michigan University commit, notched all three points on the power play. He previously had 40 points (21 goals, 19 assists) in 55 games with the Youngstown Phantoms over parts of two seasons.
USHL DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK – Cooper Wylie (Waterloo Black Hawks)
Waterloo Black Hawks blueliner Cooper Wylie has been named United States Hockey League Defenseman of the Week after recording four points (one goal, three assists) in two games. He has six points (one goal, five assists) in seven games this season. Wylie, 19, was unranked in FCHockey’s Final list for the 2021 NHL Draft.
USHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK – Kevin Pasche (Omaha Lancers)
Omaha Lancers netminder Kevin Pasche has been named United States Hockey League Goaltender of the Week after posting a 1.95 GAA and .927 save percentage in two games. Pasche, 18, is 1-3-0-0 with a 2.25 GAA and .917 SV% in four games this season.
NCHC FORWARD OF THE WEEK – Carter Savoie (Denver)
Denver forward Carter Savoie has been named NCHC Forward of the Week after recording seven points (four goals, three assists). Savoie set an NCHC record for points in a game after recording his first collegiate hat trick while adding three assists in an 8-0 win against Air Force. Savoie, selected in the fourth round (No. 100) in the 2020 NHL Draft by the Edmonton Oilers, has a four-game point streak to start the season and leads the NCHC with 11 points, and is tied for the conference lead with five goals and six assists. His 2.75 points-per-game leads the entire NCAA.
NCHC DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK – Sean Behrens (Denver)
Denver rearguard Sean Behrens has been named NCHC Defenseman of the Week after recording four points — all assists. Behrens, selected in the second round (No. 61) by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2021 NHL Draft, has six points — all assists — in four games this season.
NCHC GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK – Isaiah Saville (Omaha)
Omaha netminder Isaiah Saville has been named NCHC Goaltender of the Week after helping his school win back-to-back games against Alaska. Saville, selected in the fifth round (No. 135) by the Vegas Golden Knights in the 2020 NHL Draft, finished the series with a 1.48 GAA and .940 SV%, and has a personal five-game winning streak
NCHC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Jack Peart (St. Cloud State)
St. Cloud State defenseman Jack Peart has been named NCHC Rookie of the Week after recording two points (one goal, one assist) against Minnesota, including his first ever collegiate goal. Peart, selected in the second round (No. 54) of the 2021 NHL Draft by the Minnesota Wild, has four points (one goal, three assists) as a freshman this season.
ECAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Brandon Estes (Union College)
Union College defenseman Brandon Estes, an undrafted 24-year-old free agent, has been named ECAC Player of the Week. Estes led ECAC Hockey skaters with four points (one goal, three assists) in two games this weekend. He had points on four of five Union goals. Estes has four points (one goal, three assists) in four games this season.
ECAC GOALIE OF THE WEEK – Connor Murphy (Union College)
Union College goaltender Connor Murphy has been named ECAC Goalie of the Week. Murphy made 69 saves in two games to help Union to a 1-0-1 record. In all, the 23-year-old posted a 1.92 GAA and .945 SV% in his two appearances. Murphy, a Carleton Place Canadians alumnus, has a 1-2-1 record with a 2.70 GAA and .925 SV% in four appearances this season.
ECAC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Collin Graf (Union College)
Union College freshman Collin Graf was named ECAC Rookie of the Week. Graf had a goal and an assist — including his first career collegiate goal — on Friday. Graf, an undrafted free agent, had 54 points (19 goals, 35 assists) in 42 games as captain of the Boston Jr. Bruins in 2020-21.
CCHA FORWARD OF THE WEEK – Tyler Kirkup (Bemidji State)
Bemidji State forward Tyler Kirkup has been named CCHA Forward of the Week after recording four points (three goals, one assist) in two games. Kirkup, a senior, is tied for 10th in CCHA scoring with four points, and third in the league with three goals.
CCHA DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK – Jacob Nordqvist (Lake Superior State)
Lake Superior State blueliner Jacob Nordqvist has been named CCHA Defenseman of the Week after leading his team to a sweep over St. Thomas. Nordqvist recorded three points (one goal, two assists). Nordqvist, a senior, has three points (one goal, two assists) in six games.
CCHA GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK – Charlie Glockner (Northern Michigan)
Northern Michigan netminder Charlie Glockner has been named CCHA Goaltender of the Week. Glockner, a freshman, stopped all 19 shots in a relief appearances against Notre Dame on Saturday. On Friday, he made 41 saves in a 5-3 win against the United States National Team Development Program.
CCHA ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Dawson Tritt (Lake Superior State)
Lake Superior State freshman Dawson Tritt has been named CCHA Rookie of the Week after recording two points (one goal, one assist) in a sweep over St. Thomas this weekend. Tritt had 14 points (eight goals, six assists) in 32 games played with Lone Star Brahmas of the NAHL last season.
