Hardie has looked good skating in a scoring line role after spending much of his rookie season buried on the depth chart. Hardie is an above average skater; he has decent foot speed and balance on his edges but could stand to improve his top-end speed. He is very agile and shows the ability to weave through traffic with control of the puck. He showcases soft hands, including the confidence to make defenders miss with quick dekes and hang onto the puck long enough for a lane to open. His shot is probably his best offensive attribute, as he isn’t afraid to shoot from odd angles or off one-timers. He gets great power despite his slender frame, and shows a knack for anticipating the play to find open space in the opposing end. He isn’t as effective along the boards and in physical play, as he can get pushed around by bigger players, but he isn’t afraid to battle in the dirty areas or take a hit to make a play. His effort and awareness in his own zone were improved today compared to his first season, but his lack of strength again limits him in scrums below the goal line. His defensive awareness and anticipation shines through at times, particularly in puck pursuit on the back check. Good potential as a young player with advanced hockey IQ and a demonstrated ability to stand out as a scorer on a young team.
