A great skater, Urdahl has the ability to affect both ends of the ice. His skating and high-motor make him an impact player both offensively and defensively. He has quick strides and anticipates the play extremely well, he closes in on the opposing team and disrupts their breakouts. That anticipation also comes into play in the defensive zone, using his stick and his vision to take away passing lanes and eliminate his assignment from the offensive attack. In the offensive zone he has a quick accurate shot but needs to work on adding some power in order to challenge goalies at higher levels. He’s effective in transition because of his speed and vision, he identifies lanes and attacks them with quick bursts of speed. He struggles with his puck control, fumbling passes or overhandling the puck and losing it through the neutral zone. He can play in all situations because of his skating ability and his high-octane style of play. There’s upside in his game, players who can skate like him and impact the game on both sides of the puck are hard to come by. He will have to improve his puckhandling and become a more consistent player in the transition game but there’s enough in Urdahl’s game to take him with a late draft pick.
