An offensive-minded forward, Johansson is strong on the puck and likes to drive the play. Although he’s a decent skater, he doesn’t have the best first steps. That said, after his initial strides his acceleration is good and his top speed is also above average. He has good balance and solid lower-body strength and is hard to knock off the puck when he uses his body to protect it. He can make quick dekes to surprise his opponents. His speed and hands make him a good puck mover and he also likes to carry the puck zone-to-zone. His hockey IQ is inconsistent. He’s a decent passer and can find passing lanes while skating with the puck, but is a bit egotistic and at times would rather take a chance at scoring a goal on his own rather than making a simple play to set up a teammate for a better scoring opportunity. He understands what needs to get done, but sometimes attempts to do too much.  To succeed, he will need to mature in this area. Johansson has many interesting tools, but has to mature as a player and work on his defensive game to reach his potential. He has the skill to be a useful pro in the future. He will need to simplify his game and better utilize his teammates to crack an NHL roster.
