Although Rhinehart has been around the league for the while and has grown accustomed to the nuances, he’s still a guy who doesn’t really stand out on the ice. A lanky defender, he doesn’t have great quickness and is still growing into his body, though he should be able to add more power to his skating as he grows and matures. His skating stride once he gets going is steady, but he still doesn’t have that extra gear and is slow with his transitions. Defensively, he possesses an active stick and raw strength, which he uses to fight for the puck on the wall and to box out opponents. He erases his man well down low and uses his body to protect the puck on his stick, which he does without much issue. His reach allows him to cover a massive area on the ice, but once again, his speed will have to improve in order to keep him an effective player when covering gaps. While his hands aren’t cutting edge, he thinks the game well as he sees plays develop and pushes pucks up ice. He isn’t much of a threat offensively yet and doesn’t yet have the confidence or the will to rush the puck up ice himself. He displays a low to moderate threat on the point with his ability to complete the short and simple pass on the outlet and in zone, but his shot isn’t much of a dangerous scoring threat.
