Checking off all the boxes when it comes to what coaches want in a goalie, Kochetkov is one of the most appealing netminders in this draft despite his older age. Quick and agile, he doesn’t give up on the play and will take away scoring opportunities any chance he gets. He plays with a confident and calm demeanor and challenges his opponents by playing large and taking away the net. He fills the net well with his natural size and has long limbs, while also possessing quick reflexes and sharp reaction time. He does a very good job of staying composed and focused in the crease, relying on his size and positioning to do most of the work for him. He doesn’t get caught scrambling or flailing often. He also seems to have an easy time brushing off pressure, as evidenced by his stellar play at the World Juniors and the Super Series. A classic late bloomer, there is a lot of long-term upside to his play and some NHL goalie coaches are likely salivating at the chance to work with him. A third-year eligible goalie, his play has gotten better as he ages and he could be a true star in the NHL. He has really made a name for himself in international tournaments and is likely one of the better goaltender options in this draft.
