Passed over twice now, Okuliar is a guy who excels more due to his mental game and quick hands than any sort of dynamic skillset. He doesn’t have a dynamic skating stride but manages space well and is effective in short drives with the puck, using his edges and body to block out bodies and stocks to get to a better position. He is a battler who keeps his feet moving though he has just average speed. His hands and aren’t the slickest and while he is competent in puck control, he doesn’t really show anything outside the box or always deliver the perfect pass, although he does have a good panic threshold and displays great patience to wait for that prime lane. His best asset is how quick and accurate he can find a handle on the puck and deliver quick and precise shots with his methodical release. There’s no discrimination with where he fires the puck from as he is just as likely to beat a goaltender in tight or off the rush. He can score goals from multiple places in the offensive zone because he combines great shot mechanics and selection with a keen nose for the net and the drive to get into prime areas. He’s also no slouch when it comes to carrying the puck and distributing it to teammates. Defensively, he carries his weight and he works hard to tie up body and fight for loose pucks. Plays with a bit of a chip on his shoulder.
