Simontaival is a dynamic offensive forward who is very fluid on the ice with a decent top speed. He has quick feet and excellent agility, which helps him move the puck up the ice with ease and create many controlled zone entries. He possesses quick hands and he can make plays at high speed. His skating abilities and puck skills make him dangerous off the rush and allows him to move around the offensive zone with ease. He displays a great vision and hockey senses, setting up teammates with many scoring chances. He also has a dangerous shot, which makes him a dual threat in the offensive end. Despite his small size, he isn’t afraid to get into physical battles. He has a surprising strength for his stature, which allows him to deliver solid checks and work hard in board battles. He puts pressure on the puck carrier and works hard to recover the puck. He gets into dirty areas and loves to work in front of the net. He still needs to work on his upper-body strength as he gets knocked off the puck too easily. He showcases a high compete level on the forecheck and in corners, but he doesn’t really backcheck and seems uninterested in defending. He has an offensive mentality, as he’s often gliding in his own zone, looking to counterattack before blocking plays. Thanks to his offensive tools, Simontaival has a high upside, but his defensive play and small stature might make the transition to the pro-level tougher.
