The first thing that stands out about Korhonen is his speed, which is a byproduct of his excellent acceleration. Getting up to top speed quickly, he has very short crossovers when turning, which, if refined further, could make him an even better and faster skater. When he carries the puck he shows very little decrease in his speed, though he seems to have some issues keeping the puck on his stick and maintaining control in full flight. From an effort level he is almost always giving 100 percent. Shows a natural inclination to backcheck and apply pressure to the puck carrier at both ends of the ice, and steals aren’t uncommon. Performs well as a penalty killer. He is a strong forechecker but could improve this area more if he followed through with the play and finished checks more, as at times he exerts a lot of effort to press the play only to then turn away early. He seems to process the game well and is scanning the ice constantly in combination with moving around to find open ice. Plays well off the puck, working in and out of the prime shooting areas and staying ready to receive passes. If he can add more strength it will help him with his stickhandling and also get some more velocity on his shot. Tries to be involved in the transition game but struggles with his zone exits at times, as his breakout passes don’t always connect with his teammates. He is a little too predictable and easy to defend at times offensively, lacking dynamism, creativity and deception. Can hang on to pucks for too long, unable to find openings or options and leading to losses of possession. With his natural skating ability and high compete level Korhonen appears to have some interesting upside and looks like a pretty safe pick.
