Parssinen is a player that although he has moments of stable sequences, he doesn’t stand out in any one area, often utilized as a bottom pairing defender and swingman who fills in at forward, playing a very tentative game in a supposed energy role. He doesn’t have explosiveness in his stride or a great start that gains speed in forward or reverse and his impact and style of play is monotone. He seems to be a slightly below average puck mover as there is somewhat of a mindlessness to his game and he is limited in creating impact plays, playing an uninspiring game. He doesn’t read the ice well with or without the puck and it trickles into loose defensive coverage and wavering from assignment in his own end. The urgency in his game simply lacks and besides a few late rub outs on the wall or a “by chance” covering of a lane, he is reactive to plays and inconsistent in holding gaps while sustaining pressure from an advantageous defensive position. Offensively, he is simply too easy to read and although he makes some one-time shots from the blueline, the puck doesn’t seem to jump off the stick and he seems to hesitate before shooting too often. Overall, nothing really stands out about his game. From compete level to hockey sense, his play often shows he is more than willing to defer responsibility and a heavy load to the four other skaters on the ice with him.
