He is strong on his skates and moves without defect. His top-end speed doesn’t hit a pinnacle gear yet, but he has some dynamic qualities when it comes to his edge work and quickness in starts and stops. Defensively, he is a smart player who manages risk and reward and is an effective shut-down guy at his foundation. He is strong on the wall even though he has some weight to gain and does a good job of gaining leverage and keeping his hands free to corral pucks. Strong on gap control, governing the net front and breaking out play as this is the area of his game that he prides himself on. He puts together a simple offensive game without much flair. Plays with simple, quick passes and makes the heady play to avoid being detrimental. Will go out of his way if he has room to create off the line or lead a rush but this was often left to other teammates. He’s highly mobile and loves to activate on the rush, accelerating quickly and utilizing strong edge work to remain elusive and methodical more so than cranking the throttle forward and attempting to blow past opponents. He doesn’t play a high-octane brand of skilled hockey, but he knows how to control the puck effectively and brandish his body if he must go to a tough area of the ice.
