Chanton was an OHL player in the 2019-20 season and when the OHL season was put on hold he was able to return home to Switzerland to play during his draft year. A defender who makes his money with his defensive impact but has the ability to jump up into the offensive game and help contribute. A smooth skater, he has good footwork and has the agility to change directions without losing a beat. He needs to get more power in his legs to become a more effective skater though, while he has great lateral movement he lacks the speed to be a regular transitional threat. His inconsistency with the puck seems to stem from a lack of confidence, when he’s pressured he rushes the puck off his stick and leaving better choices on the table. If Chanton can add to his skating ability he will become an even more effective defender. With better skating and more confidence he will be able to dictate where the opposing players go with the puck rather than having to react to their movements. He had the benefit of playing in his draft season, something that not all OHL players had and Chanton might have shown enough to find his way onto some team’s draft boards for the 2021 NHL Draft.
