Ekmark is a very smart hockey player who understands the game at a very high level. He has a nice skating technique and always keeps his feet moving, using smooth gliding over the ice as an agile skater. However, he could stand to improve the explosiveness in his first steps when accelerating. He likes to challenge the defenders with his solid puck handling and creativity to create scoring chances for himself and his teammates. At first look he seems like a pure playmaker, however, he also has untamed finisher qualities as he manages to sneak into danger zones without opposing defenders noticing him. With his smarts and sneaky skating, he is effective in front of the net and can benefit from rebounds often. He is rather small and has limited physicality but handles the battles in front of the goal and along the boards well anyway. Possesses soft hands and can make offensive plays in traffic areas and he is constantly aware of where his teammates are on the ice. He possesses a great decision-making skill, which translates to his pass game. He is very aware of his defensive responsibilities once his teams loses the puck and he immediately turns his attention to covering the neutral zone and eliminating possible odd men rushes. He works hard in both ends and with his speed and hockey sense, though he could turn his compete level up a notch, especially at the next level.
