August Notebook – Ferrari

Ljungman is a teenager that plays like he is an adult as he is very mature in every decision that he makes on the ice. A two-way center that reads the game well and has great positioning all over the ice and rarely gets caught out of positioning due to his skating skills. He is a solid skater with decent foot speed and good agility and balance in his strides. His first step could be a little quicker, but that should come with increased lower-body strength, which should also give him better acceleration that he is lacking now. He is a great passer and has an ability to make his teammates look good on the ice. Offensively, he could improve his puck skills to be even more dangerous. He possesses a decent shot, although he focuses more on a quick release and accuracy rather than taking the time to set his feet and shoot for power. Where he shines is his offensive awareness, as he is consistently in the right position with relentless forechecking and hard work along the boards. His defense is well developed, and he works with an active stick to poke the puck loose and start an offensive play. Defensively, he communicates with his teammates and is useful in penalty killing.  While he could work on gaining muscle to improve his effectiveness in the dirty areas of the ice, his high hockey IQ and willingness to direct traffic to the net make him a valuable player at any slot in the lineup.
