November Notebook – Tessler

In terms of his skating, Cormier is not a flashy skater, but he is effective and powerful, playing with agility and edge control. He displays good crossovers and tight turns and uses smart positioning and an ability to get to the front of the net to be a scoring threat. At times he can struggle to navigate the puck through traffic or sometimes loses control of the puck, which creates some costly turnovers. Needs to improve his transition game and become more comfortable with the puck. The diminutive winger shows some solid flashes of offence and smart positioning, but his size can hold him back from his true potential. While he makes some solid stretch passes, he needs to work on when to pass and when to hold onto the puck. His shot accuracy needs work and improvement on his power and velocity, but he has an elite release and is a scoring threat from anywhere on the ice. His best weapons are his hockey sense and his shot, and he uses both to his advantage when parked in the offensive zone. He isn’t afraid to fight for the puck in the neutral zone and along the board, but as a smaller player, he doesn’t always win the battles. In the defensive zone, it is apparent that he needs to work on his game and his play in his own end is a detriment to his overall game, but it shouldn’t hold him back as he is dedicated to improving his game.
