2021 NHL Draft: 5 under-the-radar Finnish players to watch

A durable Finnish defenseman with average puck skills. Not overly athletic and does not project to be an overly skilled tactician. Still, he does well at using his edges to maintain his gap and not easily fooled. Needs to work on overall skating ability, as he gives opponents too much space, or is unable to pivot to keep up with them. Stride is not very fluid and speed could use another gear, which would both elevate his overall skating and benefit his overall game. Does well to draw defenders in before getting a pass off. Thinks and reads the game effectively. Gets involved in removing the puck from his own defensive zone. Creates space for his teammates to manoeuvre into position. Decent passer but he needs to improve his decision making, especially when attempting to interrupt players while defending against the rush. Still, he sticks to the puck carrier like glue and challenges them often. Gets caught often when attempting to step on players though, so he needs to work on that area of his game. Will drop a knee to interrupt passes, which forces opponents to side-step him and make a pass. Timing is an asset needed to improve on. If he hones in on several areas of his game including his skating stride, he can elevate his potential and might look more attractive to teams.
