His sloppy skating mechanics make this winger’s skating look average though he does have good speed. He often seems to be working hard to make up for his lack of pure skating ability. He is a smart player who skates with a purpose, which helps him get to his spots with ease. When he reaches top speed, his balance is thrown off a bit because of his slightly awkward stride, which often means that the opponent can just knock him off his balance when he isn’t engaged and protecting the puck. When he lowers his center of gravity and drives off his edges, he does a much better job of maintaining his balance and possession of the puck. In the offensive zone, he does a good job of battling along the boards but doesn’t quite have the strength to win them with consistency quite yet. He is a good playmaker who likes to put the puck to open areas and allowing his teammates to get to the areas and create scoring chances. He does a good job of stickhandling in traffic and driving to the net to create scoring chances. His shot is good but at times erratic, missing the net or being shot right into defenders’ shin pads. When he’s not deflecting the puck into the net, he is crashing the net and waiting for rebounds to pounce on. Defensively, he can fall out of position and clutch and grab as a result, needing to make better decisions in his own end.
