Top 2025 NHL Draft eligible Lynden Lakovic is month to month with injury

Lynden Lakovic of Moose Jaw in the Western Hockey League will miss significant time with a lower-body injury.

Lakovic, who last played in a 5-2 loss against the Brandon Wheat Kings on Dec. 28, is out month to month.

“Not being able to see Lakovic for a while is really disappointing,” FCHockey scout Kareem Elshafey said. “It’s doubly disappointing because Moose Jaw sold off pieces like Brayden Yager and Rilen Kovacevic, which would have given scouts a chance to see how he can drive play on a line without those types of guys. The bright side is that we were able to see him in the CHL USA prospects game where he really showed himself well.”

Lakovic, No. 13 in FCHockey’s Winter ranking for the 2025 draft, has been one of the sharpest risers in the class.

The 6-foot-4, 195-pound left wing, who was a standout at the CHL USA Prospects Challenge last month in late November, started the season as a second-round candidate at FCHockey before jumping into the top half of the first round.

Lakovic, who has 39 points (17 goals, 22 assists) this season, joins fellow high-profile 2025 eligibles on the sidelines.

Matthew Schaefer, ranked No. 1, is estimated to miss three months with a fractured clavicle sustained while representing Canada at the 2025 World Juniors and Roger McQueen, ranked No. 6, has been out since October because of an upper-body injury. He has been updated to week to week.
