Top 2025 draft prospect Anton Frondell signs extension in Sweden

Anton Frondell, a top prospect for the 2025 NHL Draft, has signed a contract extension with his club team to remain in Sweden for at least one more season.

Frondell, 17, has 25 points (11 goals, 14 assists) in 29 games with Djurgårdens IF this season. He is second amongst draft-eligible forwards in HockeyAllsvenskan, Sweden’s second division, in goals and points to teammate Victor Eklund.

“When I received the offer to stay, there was no doubt, no hesitation,” Frondell told the team’s website, according to Google Translate. “Everyone who knows me knows that this is the club that I want to play for as long as possible. I have been a Djurgård fan since the day I was born and I have always looked up to those who have worn a Djurgård jersey.

“To represent Djurgård myself is the best thing I know, with the support of the supporters it only becomes more obvious with each match.”

Frondell, who has 25 points (10 goals, 15 assists) in his past 11 games, is No. 6 in FCHockey’s Spring ranking for the 2025 draft.

Only Elias Pettersson (2016-17), Alexander Wennberg (2012-13), Eklund, Jonathan Dahlen (2015-16), Robin Kovacs (2014-15), and Willian Nylander (2013-14) have outscored Frondell’s production in HockeyAllsvenskan in their NHL Draft season. Frondell’s 0.86 point-per-game mark is second only to Pettersson’s 0.95 mark.

“We have discussed Frondell heavily throughout this year,” FCHockey chief scout Samuel Tirpak said. “From the day the season started, I loved his consistency in his compete level, the straightforward nature of his game that relies on creating scoring chances frequently by any means necessary, whether that’s through physicality, skill, power or just volume of shots on goal or something else — an important trait for future NHL success. A late-season production spike is an added bonus to his strong draft season.”
