Svechnikov named OHL rookie of the month

Andrei Svechnikov had himself a strong, but shortened, first month in the Ontario Hockey League.

Svechnikov, second in Future Considerations’ preliminary ranking for the 2018 NHL Draft, was named OHL Rookie of the Month for October after leading all first-year players with nine points (seven goals, two assists) in five games.

He had three multi-point games, including a hat-trick on Oct. 5 against the North Bay Battalion. He also scored twice in a win against the Saginaw Spirit on Oct. 7, and had four points against the Erie Otters on Oct. 12.

Svechnikov’s month was ended when he sustained a broken hand on Oct. 14.

He is expected to miss six-to-eight weeks.
