Sanderson earns Dave Tyler Award
Jake Sanderson of the Under-18 United States National Team Development Program has been named the 2020 recipient of the Dave Tyler junior hockey player of the year award, USA Hockey announced Thursday.
The award is given annually to the most outstanding American-born player in junior hockey. Sanderson, No. 12 in FC Hockey’s Final ranking for the 2020 draft, put up 29 points (seven goals, 22 assists), and projected himself into top-10 consideration this season.
“Sanderson is the all-around defenseman you look for in this day and age,” U.S.-based FC Hockey scout Ray Napientek said. “He can defend you, beat you off the rush, and bury his chances when needed.
“The more you watch him the more you realize he could be the top defenseman in this class when it’s all said and done. Don’t let his numbers fool you, he can win games so many different ways.”
The 2020 NHL Draft-eligible prospect was honoured earlier this year as the MVP of the 2020 BioSteel All-American Game.
