Fantilli expected to play for Canada at World Championship: report

Adam Fantilli could be making his mark on the Worlds.

Fantilli, No. 2 in FCHockey’s Midterm ranking for the 2023 NHL Draft, is expected to play for Canada at the 2023 IIHF World Championship in Tampere, Finland and Riga, Latvia from May 12-28, according to Sportsnet’s Jeff Marek.

“Expect draft prospect Adam Fantilli to play for Team Canada at the World Hockey Championships,” Marek tweeted Sunday.

Fantilli was named the Hobey Baker Memorial Award winner earlier this month after dominating college hockey as a freshman. He led the NCAA in scoring with 65 points (30 goals, 35 assists), and was also awarded the Tim Taylor award as the nation’s top freshman player, and named a West First Team All-American after his 1.81 points-per-game average is the tops in the country this century.

It’ll be his second time representing Canada this season after helping his country to gold at the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship earlier this year. Fantilli had five points (two goals, three assists) in seven games at the tournament.

Connor Bedard, the top prospect for the 2023 draft, will not represent Canada at the World Championship.
