Cole Reschny is rolling, and other draft eligibles on a heater right now
Cole Reschny probably isn’t so focused on his stock for the 2025 NHL Draft.
But if he keeps putting up performances in crunch time like he has for Victoria in the Western Hockey League, he’s got a happy little byproduct as a result.
Reschny, no. 25 in FCHockey’s Spring ranking for the 2025 draft, continued his torrid playoff pace last week with 11 points (three goals, eight assists) in just four games.
“He’s always been able to put up points but his play has hit a new level… and has stayed that way in the playoffs,” FCHockey scout Kareem Elshafey said. “He’s doing a great job of driving play and being an offensive catalyst, things that were questionable at the beginning of the year. When you combine that with high-end playmaking, a nose for the net, and impressive competitiveness, you can see how effective he can be.”
Reschny had two helpers in a 5-1 win over Spokane last Monday, and added back-to-back four-point performances on Wednesday and Friday — each a one-goal, three-assist effort that saw Victoria split wins. He also had a goal in a 5-4 overtime loss on Saturday.
The exploits mean he’s been on the scoresheet in 12 straight dating back to the regular season, running his streak to 31 points (12 goals, 19 assists). The numbers pushed both is regular-season totals to 92 points (26 goals, 66 assists) in 62 games and his playoff figures to 25 points (nine goals, 16 assists) in 10 skates.
“A player elevating his play in big games is one of the most positive things to see,” Elshafey said. “It shows that in a playoff environment, he can be counted on and the more intense environment doesn’t faze him whatsoever. While nothing can replicate the NHL game, the playoffs can give us a better idea about whether a player’s game can translate to the next level.”
Here’s who else impressed this week:
Caleb Desnoyers | Moncton (QMJHL)
Caleb Desnoyers, like Reschny, continues his torrid pace.
The top producer from a week ago, Desnoyers has run his playoff totals to 20 points (six goals, 14 assists) in nine games, a bit of a boost in his production pace from the 35-goal, 84-point effort he had in 56 games with Moncton in the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League.
He’s yet to be held off the game sheet in postseason play in 2025, adding seven points (one goal, six assists) over three games last week. Those figures include a single helper in a 5-2 loss to Baie-Comeau on Tuesday, and back-to-back three-point efforts — one a three assist night and the other a one-goal, two-assist outing — in consecutive wins for Moncton.
Desnoyers, ranked no. 5, has been held to a single point in just two of his playoff matchups this spring.
Ivan Ryabkin | Muskegon (USHL)
Ivan Ryabkin continues to be a difference-maker beyond the regular season.
Ryabkin, no. 13 in FCHockey’s Spring ranking, had five points (two goals, three assists) in five games for Muskegon in the United States Hockey League, helping his squad push past Cedar Rapids and into a fortuitous position against Youngstown in the Clark Cup Playoffs.
Ryabkin had two multi-point efforts on the week, including a multi-goal effort in a 5-3 win which also saw him 14 minutes in penalties.
The 18-year-old, who joined Muskegon midway through the season, had 30 points (19 goals, 11 assists) in 27 games as a bit of an introduction to USHL play after netting 12 points (one goal, 11 assists) in 15 games with MHK Dynamo Moskva in Russia’s top junior circuit.
