Byram named WHL Player of the Month

Bowen Byram had himself a January.

Byram, sixth in Future Considerations’ Winter ranking for the 2019 NHL Draft, had 19 points (10 goals, nine assists) and a plus-17 rating in 13 games en route to earning Western Hockey League player of the month honors.

The 17-year-old had points in 11 of those 13 games, including the first five-point game of his WHL career en route to setting a frnachise record for points in a single game by a defenseman.

Byram also had two multi-goal games, and scored the game-winning goal in three games. He also had three multi-point games in January. He also earned named first-star twice, second star once, and receieved third star honors twice.

His 10 goals are the most in a single month by a defenseman since Kale Clague scored 10 with the Brandon Wheat Kings in October 2017.

Byram is third in the WHL among defensemen scoring with 47 points (19 goals, 28 assists) in 47 games, and first in goals among all Canadian Hockey League defensemen.

In 118 WHL regular season games, Byram has recorded 74 points (25G-49A), including eight power-play goals, one short-handed goal, and seven game-winning goals.
