Jiricek is a right-handed defenseman with rare combination of size and skill. I thought he started a little slow in this game, struggling in the defensive zone to get the puck out and he made a bad read allowing his opponent to attack the middle and create a scoring chance. Jiricek was better as the game continued. He used his long stick to manipulate opponents with the puck to the wall, then taking the body and taking the puck away. He was very good defending the rush forcing players to bad spots, but his backwards skating as well as his stability looked like it needs improvements before going to the next level. Jiricek also shows good passing skills, as he can receive the puck easily with forehand and backhand, and he also finds his teammates with accurate passes with the right intensity. Offensively, Jiricek joins the rush and activates himself on the blue line. He displayed his stickhandling in full speed and offensive smartness as he joined an attack, going between the checks, receiving the puck with his feet still moving, going past a defender with a quick deke, then forcing the goalie into a tough save. On the blue line, Jiricek activates himself and is looking to improve his position to shot. If he gets the puck he will shoot often without even knowing about other options. Jiricek has a bomb of a slap shot and accurate wrist shot that often creates rebound and havoc in front of the net, so in my opinion having Jiricek taking a shot more often than usual is something you can live with. He improved this part of his game as he was faking D-to-D pass before shooting the puck, and his shots were not blocked most of the time. I still want see him making more plays on the blue line and to check other options too. Being active in the offensive zone, Jiricek sometimes struggles to get back on time. He has skating flaws and needs to improve his shift-by-shift consistency on and off the puck as well as his positioning in the defensive zone ,but still he is a very solid defender in all three zones and his skills and size are too good to not project him as a first half, first round draft pick right now.
