Ranta utilizes his frame well in puck battles and has a tenacious work ethic when battling for the puck. He can skate decently well when in puck races but otherwise is a mediocre skater. He does however have good balance and gets nice and low when in possession of the puck, making him incredibly hard to move off the puck.
