20 Takeaways from Day 2 of the 2020 NHL Draft

An average skater, he is a a forward who doesn’t mind going to the dirty areas of the ice. While he has good balance on his edges and strength in his lower half, his overall foot speed needs improvement and he can often get caught watching the play. His calling card is his hard snap shot and the ability to find open space in the offensive zone. Using his size to fight for position in the dirty areas of the ice and cleans up second chance opportunities.  He will shoot from anywhere in the offensive end, making him an ideal fit for a playmaking linemate. However, while he fires shots in high volume, the shot locations tend to be a bit questionable. He often shoots the puck into player’s feet and has a tendency for shooting pucks wide. His shot is hard and heavy but doesn’t have the accuracy that he needs to take advantage of it. Possesses high hockey IQ and shows an advanced awareness on defense in the neutral zone, using his long reach to disrupt cross-ice passes and put pressure on opposing defenders by finishing his hits when given the opportunity. However, his game in his own ends needs work as he tends make some misreads causing turnovers and his slow foot speed means he loses many races for the puck.  Overall, his ceiling isn’t as high as his peers and he still has a lot of room for improvement.
