A promising two-way defenseman that has room to grow. Solid top-end speed, but his acceleration is unable to pinch around the blue line without getting beat coming back. Needs work on his footwork, which often causes him to lose balance and control over the puck. He can carry the puck up the ice thanks to that aforementioned top speed. It’s still not enough to catch speedy attackers. But he’s mobile for a tall defender, and is effective using his stick, long reach and body to take away scoring chances. Could use work on his gap control, timing and decision-making. Tends to close the gap early around the top of the blue line, which leads to him getting beat inside. Effective at jumping into the rush and play down low behind the net off the cycle. Reads the puck well coming off goalies and the board. Effective puck retriever. Powerful wrist and slap shot that will get even better as he grows into his frame. Commits some senseless turnovers due to is inability to shoulder check or process his surroundings, so he needs to work on his on-ice awareness. Able to side-step forecheckers and keeps a level head when under pressure. Shows a great competitive edge that allows him to make up for mistakes. He’s got some good tools and should improve even more as he adds strength to his large frame.
