A player that spent his draft year waiting for a chance to play, Gill-Shane got his chance at the PBHH Erie Showcase and had a solid showing. There was not a lot of opportunities to get views on him, but in the showcase, he showed that he has the ability to have an impact on both ends of the ice. Offensively he’s a good passer and can use his legs to help drive offensive chances for his team at times. Defensively he’s good at defending the netfront and doesn’t allow opponents to get easy scoring chances in tight. He reacts quickly in the defensive zone and can break up passing plays with his reach and active stick. When Gill-Shane does struggle it’s because he tries to do too much with the puck. He can hold onto to the puck too long and hesitate with his decision making, making him vulnerable to turn overs or poor decisions in the offensive zone. When he has time and space he’s comfortable, he can make smart transition passes to help his team escape their defensive zone. With players like Gill-Shane it’s hard to gauge their draft position because they don’t have a ton of playing time in such a critical year of their development. He could find a way to sneak into the final round of the draft, but there are skills in his game that make him appealing.
