A smart and skilled offensive forward, Dorofeyev has decent speed and acceleration. His speed allows him to keep up with the pace of the play, but he will never blow past anyone. He needs to work on his stride and first few steps to be more explosive. He lacks strength, which affects him in his board battles, but he can still come out on top at times with his good stick work. His slick hands make him a threat in one-on-one battles, on the rush and on the cycle. He always tries to free himself in the offensive zone and get into passing lanes. He takes information and can make great decisions with the puck quickly. He has a quick release and an accurate shot, but he could still improve his shot power to be even more effective. Although he isn’t very intense on the puck, he’s always poised and calm. Defensively, he stays involved with an active stick to cut off passing lanes. He’s not afraid to get into dirty areas to recover loose pucks, but will intentionally stay back from some board battles to position himself into a dangerous spot if one of his teammates gets the puck. Although he lacks strength, he is surprisingly effective in puck protection with his good balance and edge work. Adding to his frame would help him complete his game.
