FC releases Fall Ranking for 2019 NHL Draft

Staios is a two-way defenseman who’s smart at both ends of the ice and has good vision and anticipation. He possesses above average edgework for this level, but he lacks that next gear in terms of speed and agility. While he is a smaller player, he can evade checkers and get into open ice and build speed by relying on his agility. With quick feet and a smooth crossover that he uses to build speed, he is an agile skater though he needs to be more aware of pressure to make something happen with the puck sooner at times. Has good gap control and ability to take away space and isn’t afraid to block shots. He possesses a good stick defensively and can make smart safe chips out of the zone In his own end, he can start the rush out of the zone and is able to see lanes when rushing while using his quick explosive crossover to get where he needs to be. He makes safe breakout passes putting pucks in areas where his forwards can skate to it, but when he forces the pass it can often lead to turnovers in his own zone. Offensively, he can get the puck off his stick quickly but needs more velocity. As an undersized player, he can be shaky at times when it comes to quick decisions but he is a raw project with possible upside. Needs to work on his consistency.
