Groshev’s skating is above average and his speed is constantly on display though his overall skating agility needs some work. He has a bit of a wide stride, which works well in Europe given how big the ice surface is. But he needs to work on a tighter stride in the future, so his skating isn’t so choppy. He displays a quickness to change angles in closing lanes to move laterally with the puck. His shot is quick off his stick and he knows where he needs to be to generate chances but, he is a little bit soft on pucks sometimes and can be knocked off too easily. He is a large framed player who shows off some quality tools and a combative nature to his game and while he is versatile with his understanding of the game, his offensive upside could be viewed as a little questionable due to the lack of impact plays he is able to generate with his inconsistency. Defensively, he inserts himself into puck battles, committing to the backcheck or tying up his men, but the compete level needs to ratchet up at times and he needs to make that extra effort to be tougher to play against, whether it be using his size to lower the shoulder or taking the extra stride to break up a pass. Overall, he is good but not great and still needs to round out his game with a more consistent effort.
