A two-way defenseman with excellent skating abilities, Norlinder makes good choices with the puck and rarely puts himself or teammates in poor situations. In addition to skating with very smooth strides, he’s mobile and has great balance. He’s a smart player while defending as he reads the ice very well. He uses a smart and active stick to break up play and employs strong positional play in the defensive zone. Although he has great defensive awareness, he could play with a bit more of a physical edge. He could also be even more involved in the offensive game, since he has all the necessary tools. He has strong puck-handling skills and can transition from zone to zone effectively. He doesn’t hesitate to move from the blue line to create odd-man advantages in the offensive zone. He sees the ice very well in the offensive zone and has a knack for being patient with the puck while waiting for passing lanes to open up. He has a heavy slap shot and an accurate wrist shot with a good release, but his passing abilities are a notch better.
