World U18s: 3 stars from Day 4

A smaller goalie who had his struggles in his draft season playing with the US National Development Team. Mbereko, moves nicely in his crease. He has strong lateral movement and get from post to post rather quickly. He had an impressive showing in the All-American Prospects game, turning aside every shot that he faced in his brief action. He had some brief action in the U18 Tournament, having some success for Team USA. His smaller frame gives him some issues when he has to make recovery saves. He will want to try and challenge shooters more rather than waiting in his crease in order to take away some of the angles that can be exploited. At times he struggles with his puck tracking, in particular on long-distance shots. There were a few too many occasions that saw him get beat from out fair this past season. Mbereko will have to learn to fight through traffic better in order to take his game to the next level, as a smaller goalie his vision can be taken away by traffic and if he learns to fight through it he will be able to track the puck much better. All in all, he’s a decent goalie prospect who probably finds himself in the lower tier of available guys in this class, he should be on the bubble in terms of being drafted.
