January Notebook – Lehoux

Lawrence is a skilled offense-oriented forward who uses his great skating, puck skills and vision to create for his team offensively. He is an effortless skater who possesses a smooth stride and a great east-west agility, which allows him to exploit space in transition and be extremely fluid on the cycle. His quick footspeed and great acceleration make him a dangerous outlet option. The challenge is that he seems to lose his speed over the course of the game. He has some nifty puck skills and great puck control, which allows him to find space in traffic and create leeway for himself. As much as he loves to control the puck and lead the breakout, he is an excellent playmaker who always wants to get his teammates involved. He makes crisp passes to his linemates and displays smooth passing tendencies on his zone entries. He possesses tremendous vision, and he’s able to find and make passes through very tight passing lanes. His goalscoring abilities are improving as the season goes along. He has great scoring instincts around the crease to put back rebounds and chip-in easy feeds, showing willingness to crash the net and a decent finishing touch. He owns a quick release and a pretty accurate wrister, but his power is still lacking a bit for him to be a constant threat away from the slot. Defensively, he sometimes has trouble clearing the puck out of his own zone, but he is a relentless forechecker and uses his active stick with intensity.
