Oden is an overager that played mostly against men this season and is a powerful player that could fit in well as a bottom-six power forward. One of his biggest strengths is his skating and he possesses very strong strides. Once he hits full speed, he is difficult to stop and can win a lot of foot races against opponents. Uses his long and powerful first strides to accelerate, and while he may not look like the most elegant skater, he is effective, strong on his skates and hard to knock off balance, especially in combination when hitting full speed. With his long stick and long reach, he can bulldoze his way to the front of the net as he is hard to knock off balance and his long reach prevents opponents from stealing the puck away. His stickhandling is a bit loose and he should tighten it up to keep pace with his skating. His long stick often interferes passes he uses it to pressure puck carriers on the forecheck. Needs to play more effective away from the puck as he is out of position too many times and loses energy with chasing the puck instead of playing a strong positioning game. When not in puck possession, he plays more a defensive game and lets himself fall deep into the neutral zone. He needs to work on consistency, especially in his own end, as he can sometimes play too timid and loose with his coverage.
